3 Laskar-e-Toiba militants killed in Kashmir, DGP tweets

 

J&K, November 21st: Three Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists have been neutralised in Magam area of Handwara district in North Kashmir as has been tweeted by Director General of Police (DGP) of Jammu and Kashmir on this morning. In the same tweet he even claimed that all the three were from Pakistan. Stone pelting has started five kilometres from the conflict area from right after the incident.

The Indian Express reported that this morning’s incident has occurred in succession of another armed conflict just two days ago in which six Pakistani militants of the LeT, including the nephew of Mumbai attack mastermind Zaki-ur Rehman Lakhvi, were gunned down in Hajin area of Bandipora during which an IAF Garud commando was also killed.

Following the operation, 15 Corps Commander Lt Gen JS Sandhu appraised the media on Sunday about the success of year-long counter-insurgency operation in the region and said that the operations have resulted in “remarkable change” in the security situation in the Valley.

Owaid alias Osama was the third member from Lakhvi’s family to enroll himself in the LeT’s ranks and be part of its operations planned for Kashmir.

Mohammad Qasim, 20 year old son of Lakhvi was killed in a gun battle with the Army and J&K police back in 2007.

Musaib, his elder brother was killed in an encounter in the Hajin area of Bandipora district in January, 2017. In the first week of November, a nephew of Jaish-e-Mohammad chief Masood Azhar was killed in Aglar village along with another local militant. The army recovered a US-made M4 rifle from the encounter site. Mohammad Qasim, 20 year old son of Lakhvi was killed in a gun battle with the Army and J&K police back in 2007.
