The state of Maharashtra on 8th February 2022 during the third wave of coronavirus pandemic.

As the pandemic curve of the third wave has flattened, the state recorded 6,436 Covid-19 cases on Monday and 24 deaths. This is the lowest one-day tally recorded since last December. A day after recording 9,666 Covid-19 cases with 66 deaths, Maharashtra reported a drop of 34%, with the detection of 6,436 cases on Monday. But this can be contributed to the plunge in daily testing on the weekend.

Looking at the plunge in cases to 321 with one fatality, the Governor has decided to lift the curbs. And as daily new Covid-19 cases continue to drop, the hotel industry wants pre-pandemic timings to be restored in the city, The Hindu reports.

The infection was mentioned many a time, especially Maharashtra’s handling of the pandemic, in the Parliament this week, when the Prime Minister launched an all-out attack on the Congress, alleging that the party gave free train tickets to migrant workers to leave Mumbai and spread coronavirus.

These accusations from the Prime Minister set off a new confrontation between the Centre and states.
