One half of Kannagi Nagar is shadowed by tall 3 BHK apartments while the other half by Ezhil Nagar. While they have a lot in common with the residents of Ezhil Nagar who too were relocated from differs parts of the city, their aspirations are no less than the ones living in the high-rises.

In the Perumbakkam locality maintenance is poor and water is scarce. Electricity supply is spotty, and the healthcare services available are less than adequate. Residents of the resettlement area also find it difficult to find livelihood in a whole new neighbourhood.
The Government School in Perumbakkam might stand by apart from the resettlers’ colonies but the infrastructure is lacking much like the buildings towering around.
Officially, the slum is called Yeddilnagar meaning “Beautiful town”, however as per the police, the place is neither beautiful nor a slum.
