Kochi, Oct 3rd: After being denied bail four times in the past, Malayalam actor Dileep has finally managed to secure bail from the Kerala High Court on Tuesday. Dileep was arrested on July 10 for his alleged involvement in the conspiracy surrounding the abduction and sexual assault of a woman actor in February this year. He is the eleventh accused in the case.
While Dileep’s earlier bail pleas cited merit, the actor had contended this time that it was his eligibility to get statutory bail as police hadn’t filed a chargesheet in 60 days. Dileep, who was arrested on July 10th, had first sought bail from a magistrate court but was denied a favourable order on July 15th. Through orders issued on July 24th and then on August 10, the high court had then turned down his pleas for bail.
Previously, when the Kerala High Court and Angamaly Magistrate court rejected bail multiple times, both the courts observed that Dileep was capable of influencing the witnesses in the case.
A few days after news broke out about the abduction and sexual assault of a prominent woman actor in February, the prime accused Pulsar Suni was arrested by the police. However, rumours about Dileep’s alleged involvement in the case began to do rounds. Although the actor vehemently denied that he was involved, he was arrested by the police in July. Dileep had denied that he even knew Pulsar Suni. However, the police found his statements to be contradictory. The police has claimed that call records and other evidences show that the two of them knew each other. The force has further said that the conspiracy dates back to a few years and that the motive is revenge.
The woman actor is believed to have been instrumental in Dileep’s ex-wife Manju Warrier divorcing him. The woman actor, who has worked in Tamil and Telugu films, was abducted and assaulted in her car for two hours. The whole incident was recorded on a mobilephone by the perpetrators.
As per the prosecution, Dileep had given a ‘quotation’ (contract) for kidnapping and sexually molesting the young actress. During the hearing, the prosecution had also informed the court that Dileep stood to gain Rs 65 crore if the ‘quotation’ was properly carried out by Sunil Kumar alias ‘Pulsar’ Suni, who is the first accused in the case.
Dileep fans celebrating reminds me of Jayalalithaa supporters celebrating after she got bail. (in a much lesser scale)
