The Patidar quota agitation leader Hardik Patel seems to be inching closer to an alignment with the Congress ahead of the Assembly elections in Gujarat.

Though a meeting between Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi and Mr. Patel is unlikely during Mr. Gandhi’s three-day yatra in the State from November 1 to 3, an alliance between his organisation, Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti (PAAS), and the Congress is a near certainty.

‘‘I want reservation for my community and not at the cost of others, let it be clear. You move heaven or Earth, I don’t care” demands Hardik Patel

On October 28, Patel had warned the Congress of protests if the party did not make its stand clear on Patidar reservation by November 3. On Monday, however, he said he would not oppose Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi’s rally scheduled for November 1 to November 3.

“It is known to the people of Gujarat that Hardik and the Congress are playing a fixed match,” accuses Vijay Rupani, Gujarat

After a long time in Gujarat election, castes are playing a significant role due to an anti-incumbency of 22 years for the ruling BJP and the OBC-Dalit-Patidar combination might play a decisive role in re-defining election equations for 2017.
